Introductions

2.1. Roads Introduction:

Most Tabriz residents travel by car through the system of roads and highways. Tabriz is also served by taxi and bus.
Tabriz has taxi and public bus network. There are also some private groups, which provide services called Phone-taxi.
Tabriz is the second city in Iran after Tehran that B.R.T system has been established in. It includes a distance of about 18 km from Baseej Square in the east to railway station in the west of the city. There are 50 bus stops in the path of B.R.T.
Tabriz subway train network is still under construction. The government of Iran had planned to finish 6 km of line No.1 of the network in 2006, but this was not achieved due to financial problems.[34]
Tabriz is linked to Europe through Turkey's roads and Bazargan border, also Tehran-Tabriz freeway is almost complete except for the last 20 km between Tabriz and Bostan Abad.
The city is linked to Iran National Railways also to Europe by Turkey's railways via Ghotour bridge in West Azerbaijan province of Iran. Tabriz was the first city in Iran to be served by railways with the construction of the Tabriz-Jolfa line. Tabriz Railway Station is located in the western part of the city, at the end of Khomeyni Street.
Tabriz International Airport opened in 1950 and is the only international airport in East Azerbaijan (since 1991). Recently, it became the first Iranian airport to gain ISO9001-2000. Its international air routes are to the following cities:

  • An Najaf
  • Antalya
  • Baghdad
  • Bodrum
  • Damascus
  • Dubai
  • Isparta
  • Istanbul
  • Izmir
  • Jeddah

Together with domestic air routes to Tehran, Mashhad, Kish Island, Bandar Abbas, Mahshahr, Asalouyeh, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Shiraz, Rasht.
The provincial road maintenance and transportation organization of East Azerbaijan is currently engaging 85 staff. The mentioned office is also represented through 6 agencies in due counties, also owns one stirring goods terminal in Sahlan, 2 border terminals named as Jolfa and Nordooz, 12 passenger terminal affiliated to the municipality, supervised by the RMTO provincial office and finally a transportation town, which is being studied. The East Azerbaijan provincial RMTO is in charge of whole policy making, management and implementation of rural transport affairs.

2.2. Rural Police Stations

The provincial RMTO is responsible for construction, repairing and maintenance of the whole 12 stirring rural police stations together with a commanding headquarter in the province. Concerning the newly opened to public highway of ZANJAN _ TABRIZ, 2 more rural police stations will be also constructed in the abovementioned road and will be exploited within upcoming years. The provincial RMTO is also in charge of procurement of non-staff requirements and police station equipment.


2.3. MIYANA county passenger terminal

The passenger terminal of Miyana county, covering 5 hectares with 2625 mآ² foundation, has been exploited in the government's week ceremony in 2002.


2.4. TABRIZ goods terminal

The goods terminal of province center is located in kilometer 14th of Tabriz_ Marand road, towards Sahlan custom affairs and covers 5.62 hectares, including below departments :

  • The building of affiliated institutes covering 7000 where the transportation companies are located inside.
  • The goods declaration office for informing drivers of then situation of loading and receiving goods list from the transportation companies, covering 1800 . The goods declaration system and due receipt issuing is computerized.
  • The administration department that is established to manage due services, where the drivers' union is settled there and also turn emission is implemented.
  • The cooperative market.
  • The fuel station covering over 3 hectares.
  • The car wash area covering over 300 mآ² .

2.5. JOLFA border terminal

The Jolfa border terminal is covering 7 hectares and 4300 mآ² foundation. The plant construction has been started from early 2001 expending 25 billion Rials and has been dedicated in early 2004, with participation of then minister of road and transportation and high-rank managers of self-rule Nakhchivan government. In the plant, the passenger terminal, which covers foundation over 3118 in two individual saloons (allocated to entrance and exit), has been constructed. There are plenty offices established inside namely police passport department, the presidential representative, custom affairs, humane, poultry and vegetative quarantine, post services, telecommunication, malls, banks, the road maintenance and transportation organizations provincial offices, … .
The newly constructed passenger ceremonial facility is equipped with heating systems, cooling systems operated by fans and chillers, fire extinguish systems, emergency electric power, central phone system, water divergence, power breakaway and urban gas piping systems. Constructing such plant has made smooth and integrated services to the passengers and the travellers' stoppage has been decreased to fifth of before.
In addition, the commercial custom affairs saloon has been recently exploited.


2.6. Nordooz border terminal

The construction of Nordooz border terminal, covering 8 hectares with over 3600 mآ² foundation, has been started from early 2001, costing over 21 billion Rials and has been opened to public in middle 2004. Within the plant, the passenger terminal covering 2986 foundation in 2 individual saloons (entrance and exit) has been constructed.
There are plenty offices established inside namely police passport department, the presidential representative, custom affairs, humane, poultry and vegetative quarantine, post services, telecommunication, malls, banks, the road maintenance and transportation organizations provincial offices, … .

2.7. En-route welfare-services

The idea for constructing en-route welfare-services is to provide favorable and opportune services to road passers in the province as well as contributing to the reduction of accidents together with fatalities and injuries. The other philosophy for realizing these plants is to lessen number of vehicles stoppage in the road, asking for certain services from the providers such as fuel station, services stations, restaurants, sanitary services, chapels, car wash areas, puncture operations, lubrication services, malls and supermarkets, emergency services, telecommunications, …. Therefore, the comprehensive plan for location exploring was programmed in RMTO and was concluded in middle 2000. Now, there are 5 restless en-route welfare-services together with 12 under construction ones, while, for the other 52 units, the official approbation has been issued.

2.9. Products transport management

  • The main products exported from the province: plenty types of bricks, reinforcing rounded/ deformed steel bars, mineral husk, fuel materials, industrial parts and components, agricultural products, dried nuts, hulls types.
